The right server location follows the application’s data path. Your own address is only one part of the decision. Users, databases, payment services and external APIs can be in different regions, and a single page or workflow may wait for several of them before it finishes.
ServerQ offers VPS plans in Istanbul, Türkiye and New York, USA. Both are real product locations, with separate plan configurations and traffic policies. This guide helps you decide which to evaluate, how to measure the result and what to prepare if an existing application must move.
What this guide helps you do
- Map users and service dependencies before choosing a region.
- Distinguish a network probe from a complete application measurement.
- Compare regional resources and prepare a reversible migration.

Draw the complete request path
- 01User
- 02VPS and application
- 03Database or external API
- 04Response to the user
Repeated, sequential calls can add delay even when each individual connection seems acceptable.
If the application and database exchange many small queries, keeping them close is often a useful starting point. A project serving users in Türkiye but depending heavily on a North American API needs both paths considered. Identify which calls are sequential, which can be cached and which sit on the critical path.
A CDN can bring static assets closer to visitors. Login, checkout, account screens and uncached API requests still reach the origin or a dependency. Measure those transactions as well as the homepage; a fast cached page does not establish that every part of the application is fast.
Use the region as a hypothesis, then test it
| Project pattern | Starting candidate | Check before deciding |
|---|---|---|
| Most users and business systems are in Türkiye. | Istanbul VPS. | Representative user networks and the application’s external services. |
| Most users or frequently called services are in North America. | New York VPS. | End-to-end requests, API limits and the actual destination region. |
| Users are split across both regions. | Measure both against the critical user journey. | Caching, application/database placement and the cost of operating two environments. |
| An existing database or regulated workflow must stay in a set location. | Start with that constraint. | Data flows, access permissions and the organisation’s requirements. |
These starting candidates are not latency guarantees. Internet routes, providers, congestion and the remote service all affect the result. A second VPS in another region also does not create automatic failover: replication, traffic routing, consistency and recovery procedures still need to be designed and operated.
Compare the actual resources and network terms
| Topic | Istanbul | New York, USA |
|---|---|---|
| Virtualisation and allocation | KVM with the plan’s vCPU, RAM and disk allocation. | KVM with the plan’s vCPU, RAM and disk allocation. |
| Monthly traffic | Use the quota shown on the selected plan. | No fixed traffic quota; subject to fair use. |
| Published port value | Hypervisor host connection, not dedicated customer throughput. | Hypervisor host connection, not dedicated customer throughput. |
| Offer comparison | Read the Istanbul product resources and price. | Read the USA product resources and price. |
If an application transfers large files, distinguish the monthly volume from the rate it needs at busy times. Fair use is still a usage condition. Discuss a sustained or unusually heavy transfer pattern before ordering instead of interpreting “no fixed quota” as unrestricted use of the host port.
Keep the plan, region and currency fixed when comparing monthly and annual billing. ServerQ applies no additional tax to the listed service price. Selected paid licences or extras can add to the service total; verify those choices and the final currency in the portal.
Measure a transaction you actually need
Run tests from the networks that matter to the project, at more than one time of day. Ping can help explore reachability where ICMP is permitted, but it does not measure DNS, TLS, application processing or a database query. A failed ICMP response alone also does not prove that HTTPS is unavailable.
The following curl example reads an endpoint you own. Replace app.example.com with a real, authorised test target. Run a modest number of requests against a representative page or health endpoint; do not treat a single sample as a benchmark or load test.
curl --silent --show-error --output /dev/null \
--write-out 'dns=%{time_namelookup} connect=%{time_connect} tls=%{time_appconnect} first_byte=%{time_starttransfer} total=%{time_total}\n' \
https://app.example.com/healthRecord errors alongside timings. Compare the same application version and similar data in both environments so that a software or cache change does not masquerade as a location advantage. For n8n, measure a representative execution including external API waiting; for WordPress, include an uncached transaction as well as a cached page.
Prepare the move before changing DNS
- Inventory the database, uploaded files, application secrets and currently deployed version.
- Create a separate backup and prove that it can be restored.
- Prepare the destination application and verify it without sending production email, payments or workflows.
- Plan the final data synchronisation and any required write pause.
- Review DNS TTL, IP allowlists, webhook settings and outgoing-service configuration.
- Define the validation steps, decision point and rollback path before switching traffic.
Changing DNS does not move the data or update every cached resolver instantly. During a cutover, two servers accepting writes can leave the databases out of sync. A rollback also has to account for writes accepted after the move; restoring an old snapshot without reconciliation can lose current business data.
Make the choice explainable
A useful final note states who the application serves, where its important dependencies run, which measurements were taken and which plan resources were chosen. Include the traffic policy and operational owner. That record makes a later region change a technical decision rather than a guess.
Choose a regional product page to compare the actual plans, or use the finder if you already know the minimum resources. If data flows or network usage impose a constraint you cannot verify from the published offer, clarify that requirement before placing the order.
Review scope
Resource suggestions are starting assumptions, not guaranteed visitor, order or workflow capacity. ServerQ confirmed the KVM resource allocation and location-specific network scope on 30 September 2026. Compare the current plan and portal order summary before purchasing; application capacity must be measured with your workload.
